Strengthening Bonds, Spreading Light
The roots of the Pontifical Mission Societies run deep, with the most recent addition stemming from the vision of Fr. Paolo Manna in 1917, Italy. Fr. Manna’s vision was to not only encourage existing Church members to support missionary work but also to inspire them to actively participate and potentially become missionaries themselves.
Thus, he laid the foundation for the Missionary Union of Clergy, aiming to infuse priests with fervor for the missions. This union became a channel for priests to raise awareness, encourage prayer, and promote enthusiasm for the missions among both the clergy and the laity. By empowering leaders within the Church, the Pontifical Mission Societies envisioned a ripple effect that would ignite the laity to pray fervently for the success of evangelization.
