Purpose

Spreading the Flame, Fostering Renewal

Pauline Jaricot’s journey from privilege to purpose birthed the Society for the Propagation of the Faith. Born into wealth in 1799 in Lyon, France, Pauline could have embraced a life of ease, yet she chose a path of compassion and action. Her heart resonated with the call to raise funds and awareness for the world missions, realizing that the Church’s renewal after the Revolution was intertwined with a rekindled passion for missions.

With a spirit of determination, Pauline’s teenage appeal to factory girls to contribute a penny a week for abandoned children in China marked the beginning of her transformative mission. In 1822, the Society for the Propagation of the Faith was born, creating a bridge between hearts across the world.
